Abstract
Since Karl Kahlbaum¢¥s contribution, catatonic syndrome has been assumed to be a subtype of schizophrenia. So many clinicians regard it as a pathognomic symptom of schizophrenia, catatonic type. But catatonic syndrome itself is not a specific disease process, but a symptom complex with numerous causes of both psychiatric and organic illness.
Authors have experienced a case of catatonic syndrome secondary to hypothyroidism and introduce it with review of it¢¥s clinical features, differential diagnosis, treatment, and also wish to stress upon the importance of pleomorphic causes, especially organic ones.
